Technology

We use the most suitable technology based on the customer’s requirements and objectives.

RTM RESIN TRANSFER MOLDING

Production process suitable for the production of medium-sized batches of end products with surfaces finished on both sides. A glass fibre preform is inserted into a closed mold. Catalysed resin is then injected into the mold. Both resin and mold are preheated to accelerate the curing process.

RESIN INFUSION

In the vacuum infusion process the reinforcing fabric is enclosed between the mold and a hermetically sealed plastic membrane, creating a pneumatic vacuum. The pneumatic vacuum in turn causes entry of the catalysed resin, which impregnates the fabric.

INJECTION MOLDING

In this technology thermosetting or thermoplastic resins heated to a high temperature are injected into a preheated hollow mandrel. These resins may be mixed with other components. Subsequent cooling in a final mold guarantees the shape of the piece.

COMPRESSION MOLDING

This process comprises molding by polymerization in molds and countermolds. This technology enables the production of components of very different types and dimensions and is used for high production volumes in a unit of time. Impla also carries out molding with Sheet Molding Compounds (SMC), pre-impregnated materials (with thermosetting resin and glass fibre base): one of the main advantages of this process is design flexibility together with functional integration: a single complex mold can incorporate different parts and functions.

HAND LAY-UP

This process is typically used for small batches. Glass fibre reinforcements are applied inside the mold in the form of fibre or fabric strands. The fibres are then saturated with catalysed resin and manually consolidated using metal or plastic rollers.

FILAMENT WINDING

This process is primarily used for the production of cylindrical articles such as pipes, ducts and tanks. Continuous layers of glass fibre are impregnated with catalysed resin and wound around a rotating mandrel according to a pattern designed on the basis of the desired characteristics in the end product.
